Effective July 1, 2025, pursuant to Session Law 2024-29, the minimum limits for bodily injury have been increased from $30,000 to $50,000 per person and from $60,000 to $100,000 per accident. In addition, the minimum limits for property damage have increased from $25,000 to $50,000. The increase applies to policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2025.

With the recent change to the DMV website, please confirm that you are on the proper ELT Lienholder Lookup website when searching for a Lienholder ELT number — the URL is https://elthub.edealerapp.com/Account/ElthubLenderLookup 

ELT search tips

• When using the Search option, please change the Jurisdiction to “North Carolina” (to the right of the Search field).
• If you cannot find the Lienholder in this database, you must reach out to the Lienholder and have them contact their vendor to supply them with an NC ELT number.

Securely storing inventory

Please remember that the inventory must be stored in a secure area. All unaccounted inventory will be charged back to the dealership if not accounted for at the time of an audit.

Note: In the case of stolen plates or stickers, a police report is required. Participating dealers will not be responsible for stolen plates or stickers if the plates and stickers were securely stored at the time of the theft.
