In order to keep your deals moving smoothly, we’ve compiled some expert advice on submissions to avoid rejection. Remember, incomplete or missing documentation are the leading causes of rejection.
Incomplete documentation
- Full name (First, Middle, Last, Suffix) of Buyer/Co-Buyer must be included on all documents. Names should be consistent throughout and appear the same on all documents.
- Missing signatures — before submitting, check that all signatures are present.
- Missing Exemption Certificate for out-of-state buyers
- If it’s a cash deal or there’s no lien on the vehicle, NONE should appear on the lienholder line.
Information in Vitu does not match documentation uploaded
- Full name (First, Middle, Last, Suffix) of Buyer/Co-Buyer must match all documentation.
- Rejections for middle name vs middle initial:
If Buyer/Co-Buyer has a full middle name spelled out in documents, be sure to remove it from the middle field and enter behind first name, as the state/county system only recognizes the first initial
- Rejections for middle name vs middle initial:
Due to the state title issuance system only having a middle initial (1 character limit), the county would receive the entry above in their system as FIRST M. LAST
By entering the middle name behind the first name separated by a space, the county will receive the name as First Middle Last and will match your documents, preventing rejection.
- Purchase Date entered in Vitu should match the delivery/assignment date in documentation.
- Social Security Number must be entered and match the documentation submitted.
- Out of state inspections are valid for 30 days.
- If applicable, don’t forget to cancel the lien.
Missing/Wrong documentation
Here are a few document issues that are worth a double-check.
- Front/Back of the title or MSO not scanned
- Lien release missing
- Incorrect BMV 3772 provided (trade vs retail)
- Affidavit of correction missing
- Scans not in color or upside down
- If correcting a rejected transaction, be sure you have removed the scans containing the error(s) that caused the rejection and scanned in the updated and/or missing documents
Reminder: always check with your processing county regarding paperwork requirements and rejections. Each county has their own processing standards, and certain requirements can vary by county.
Effective September 30, 2025, Ohio House Bill 96 increased the maximum price dealers can charge for a Temporary Tag to $23, pursuant to Am. Sub. H.B. 96, 136th G.A., amendments to section 4503.182 of the Ohio Revised Code, effective September 30, 2025.
The cost the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Dealer Licensing Section, sells Temporary Tags to a licensed dealer will remain $15.00; however, the amount a dealer can sell a Temporary Tag to their customers will change from $20.00 to $23.00 dollars.
Important reminders:
- A temporary motor vehicle license registration (Temporary Tag) shall be issued only for the applicant's use of the motor vehicle to enable the applicant to legally operate the motor vehicle while proper title, license plates, and a certificate of registration are being obtained, and shall be displayed on no other motor vehicle.
- The purchaser of a motor vehicle that was previously issued a license plate during the current registration year that can legally transfer the license plate to that motor vehicle shall not be issued a temporary motor vehicle license registration.
- A temporary motor vehicle license registration is valid for a period of 45 days from date of issuance and is not transferable or renewable.
- While the Temporary Tag is valid for 45 days, the timeframe to obtain a title without a late fee penalty of $5 is 30 days.

Seasonal Relaxation
Let's get spicy this month! Pumpkin spice, that is!
Fall is a time of change, of comfort, of joy, and of peace. Have you ever noticed that fall seems to bring a gentle calm into your life unlike any other month? It is a time where we can take a breath, slow down, enjoy our coffee or tea a little bit more as we look at the changes happening in nature all around us. Fall color is amazing! Oranges, yellows, and reds abound all around us amidst the greens. People seem calmer, walking in the welcome coolness of a nice fall evening. We start to decorate our work and home areas with pumpkins and leaves that reflect the season. Sweaters and hoodies start to come out of storage as the days get a little shorter, a little cooler, and the nights get a little longer. Favorite movies that celebrate the season start popping up on our TVs, inviting us to just curl up with a light blanket and sit, relax, and enjoy them, quietly feeling an inner peace that is so different than the other months of the year.
Yes, October is a very special month. During this wonderful month of YOU, we also think about taking some downtime for ourselves, of taking care of ourselves. It is so important to take care of "us" — if we don't do it, who will?
Remember to still take the time to stretch while at work — get up and walk a bit every hour or so, to keep up your energy levels and to keep that relaxed feeling flowing through you as you power through your day! As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, try and get some morning sunlight in your eyes to help your biological clock (circadian rhythm). Some people benefit from using a special light during the fall and winter months to help them to wake up and sleep better, and help ward off Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It is a real thing, and affects a lot of people during these shorter days and longer nights.
This month’s Treat for YOU
Now, let's talk about spice! Do you like pumpkin spice? I recently learned how to make a guilt-free, sugar-free, pumpkin spice ice cream, and a pumpkin spice coffee ice cream. I will share the recipe with you, and next month I will share a different recipe with you for another guilt-free item that you can enjoy during the upcoming holidays.
For the totally guilt-free ice cream, you will need 1 pint of heavy whipping cream, 5 egg yolks, 2 capfuls of real vanilla extract or a vanilla bean, and 6-10 packets of stevia leaf powder or monk fruit. That is our base. It makes for a delicious vanilla ice cream. To make it more fall-like, add a teaspoon or two of Pumpkin Spice, and if you love pumpkin spice lattes, add a tablespoon or two of instant coffee crystals.
Mix it up with a hand mixer, or a whisk, or stand mixer. If you have an ice cream maker, you can then add it to the machine. If you don't have an ice cream maker, do not despair! Just put it in the freezer for 45 minutes, then mix up again for a few minutes, then back in the freezer for 2 hours. Then enjoy this delicious guilt-free treat!
