Are you managing multiple tasks or responsibilities simultaneously? Are some of those tasks VIN/plate corrections? Statistics show that VIN/plate errors are significantly reduced by reviewing the information that populates after scanning the insurance card. 

Review tips

  • Always review the information that populates when scanning the insurance card BEFORE clicking OK. 
  • Similarly, always check to ensure that all the paperwork matches what you entered in Vitu. 

State-mandated reviews

The following reviews are mandated by the State of New York:

  • Review motor vehicle documents,  proofs and entered data prior to processing transactions.
  • After scanning the insurance card, title staff is required to confirm that the VIN on the insurance card matches the MV82 and/or ownership document.

In short, plate errors can be avoided by verifying again what has been entered in Vitu prior to processing the transaction — before you click the Process button.

Tips for working with the Private Sector Partner (PSP) Unit

  • Be aware that when calling into the PSP Unit to have corrections made, the representative will only take three corrections per call.
  • Plate and/or VIN corrections can take up to 30 days for staff to process.
  • Do not contact the PSP Unit for status until at least 30 days have passed.
  • Never send a Correction Sheet or Correction paperwork without first having spoken with a PSP staff member about the problem.
  • Always send a Correction Sheet or Correction paperwork to the attention of the PSP staff member with whom you’ve already spoken about the problem.
