Temporary Colorado DMV DRIVES System downtime — February 10–17, 2026

We’re sharing an important update regarding an upcoming state DRIVES system upgrade that will temporarily impact Electronic Vehicle Title and Registration (EVTR) services.

How am I affected?

  • Colorado DMV DRIVES system has a scheduled outage to implement an upgrade. Your EVTR services will be unavailable starting Tuesday, February 10 at 4:45 p.m. through Tuesday, February 17.
  • During this time, you will not be able to process EVTR transactions in Vitu.

What you should do now

  • To avoid delays or missed state/lender deadlines, we strongly recommend processing any older or time-sensitive deals before the downtime begins.

What to expect next

  • EVTR services will gradually begin restoring Wednesday, February 18 through Friday, February 20.
  • Once restored, you’ll have access to new and improved system functionality, including the ability in Vitu to process transactions for lease and lease buyouts in the upgraded version of DRIVES.

If you have questions during the upgrade period, please contact Vitu at cosupport@vitu.com or reach out to your Account Executive directly.

Thank you for your patience as the improvements are completed — new features on the way.

As we look back on 2025, we want to take some time to recap the changes made in Vitu as we continue working closely with you and the State of Colorado to make processing through EVTR even easier.

Many of these updates were requested by you through our amazing audit team in collaboration with the Account Executives, who understand how challenging it can be to remember every little difference between EVTR and county processing.

Let’s look at the wins and some reminders from 2025:

Exciting EVTR wins

Lienholder listed on the MSO — No longer required

This change was made in the summer of last year. You no longer need to list the lienholder on the MSO. Win!

Purchase price listed on the back of the title — No longer required

This update came in December 2025 and was a big win for all of us as this was easy to overlook.

Altering the DR 2395 or DR 2407 — Updated guidance

We can now write the correct body type using a slash next to the unacceptable type, as long as we do not alter what was originally printed on the form (altering means drawing a line through the incorrect information). Another big win!

Acceptable examples (DR 2444 is NOT required):

  • PU/PK
  • MP/UP
  • WG/SW
  • 4D/SD
  • 2D/CP

Unacceptable examples (DR 2444 is required):

  • WG/UP
  • PK/SD
  • SD/UP
  • 2D/UP

MSRP must match DRIVES on DR 2395/DR 2407 when submitting with a Colorado title — No longer required

The state no longer audits MSRP on these forms since the value is already established in the Colorado DRIVES system and will not change. This update came in fall of 2025 — another win.

Both buyers’ signatures required on DR 2407 — No longer required

The DR 2407 is typically used to acknowledge an odometer reading, and per the state, only one signature is required. There should be no change to your current business process; however, if you encounter a DR 2407 with only one signature, EVTR can accept it.

BTW, this change came from a dealership inquiry last spring — thank you for reaching out. Big win!

A few EVTR reminders

Using a DR 2444 Statement of Fact (SOF) to change the purchase date on a DR 2407 — Situation dependent

  • A DR 2444 can be used if the date change is within a few days (approximately 2–4 days) due to a printing error.
  • A DR 2444 CANNOT be used if the deal was re-contracted. If the date is outside the 2-4 day range, a new DR 2407 is required. (This change was made in October 2025.)

Spaces between purchaser names

Names must now match exactly. Any name variations—including spaces or hyphens—must be supported by a DR 2421.

Secretary of State printouts as proof of business ownership

We cannot accept Secretary of State printouts as proof of ownership per the Colorado Title and Registration Manual. Either a DR 2444 or a letter on company letterhead is required to allow the owner or agent to sign on behalf of the business.

Statement of Fact (SOF) needed when names on the security agreement differ

This ruling has been modified as follows:

  • DR 2444 is NOT required when the co-buyer’s address is different from the buyer’s, as long as the address across all paperwork matches the titled buyer’s address.
  • DR 2444 is required when multiple names appear on the security agreement but not on the other supporting documents. The form must acknowledge that the co-signer will not be listed as an owner on the title document and may be signed by either the dealership or the co-signer.
  • DR 2444 is required and must be signed by the lender when multiple buyers appear on all paperwork but only one buyer is listed on the security agreement, to acknowledge and approve the discrepancy.

Always remember that in partnering with you — and listening, Vitu continuously strives to make your EVTR processing go faster and easier. Let’s celebrate our wins from 2025!
