- Using erasable ink pens when filling out legal documents is not accepted at state offices, and your documents may be rejected for this.
- When submitting your final documents, all Driver Licenses must be clear and legible. Some states require these to be uploaded into their portal — if they are illegible, you may experience processing delays.
Completing a Massachusetts RTA.
The state of Massachusetts has begun rejecting deals if the Registration and Title Application (RTA) is not generated in the same format. Both pages of the RTA must be fully typed or fully handwritten. Additionally, both pages must be sent via fax or uploaded as an email attachment from the insurance carrier. If the pages do not resemble each other, the state will reject the document. As always, the insurance stamp is only valid for 30 days from the policy change date.
Minnesota’s updated Electric Vehicle fee.
The state of Minnesota has changed their Electric Vehicle (EV) fee from a flat fee to a percentage. For a full EV, the fee percentage is .05% of the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). For a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the fee percentage is .025% of the MSRP. Please validate your MSRP prior to submission as it's not necessarily the same as the Total Sales Price of the vehicle.
Document signatures in New Jersey.
Dealers cannot sign for both the dealership and the buyer on all documents in New Jersey. If one person is signing on behalf of the dealership, then a different person must sign on behalf of the buyer as POA.
Posting fees on California transactions.
If you submit your California transaction to Pre-Audit within 20 days of the sale date, Vitu can post fees to help reduce, and in some cases avoid, penalties entirely.
Simply upload the paperwork to Pre-Audit and let us know that you would like fees posted. Please note — when this option is selected, there will be two invoices: one for the fee posting and another for the completed transaction once it has been processed by the state.

When calculating the sales tax and fees for Iowa, you will see a banner that reads:
For accurate MSRP (List Price) please visit Calculate Your Transfer Fee / Credit | lowa Tax And Tags. Click "Calculate your Transfer Fee/Credit. Select Tools > Dealer Inquiry > Weight and List Price Calculator. Enter the vehicle specifics, and click calculate.
Entering the vehicle specifics will ensure that the MSRP entered matches the amount that the state is using to calculate the tax.
