Rejections can be time-consuming for both you and our internal audit team, and we’d like to give you more insight into how these can happen. Below are the ten most frequent reasons for rejections, so you can be on the lookout:

9. Incorrect JTWROS selection
8. Second owner’s information missing

7. MSRP not matching paperwork or DRIVES amount
6. Unacceptable body styles listed
- Example: 4D, 5D, 2D
5. California repo titles:
- Release of Interest must be signed
- “REPO” alone is not acceptable
4. Kansas titles:
- Buyer must sign the title
- Otherwise, dealer resale must be applied for
3. Outdated state forms used after retirement
- Example: old versions of DR 2393 or DR 2395
2. Incorrect out-of-state title numbers entered in the proper format
- Example: California title format must be “YYYYMMDD”
1. Surrendered title information not updated prior to submission
Preventing rejections
Here are three easy ways to keep rejections to a minimum:
- Check your scans carefully — Open and enlarge your scanned documents to catch missing information, overlaps, or omitted pages.
- Double-check your data — Since Vitu allows edits even after a vehicle is marked as sold, be sure to use this step to review and correct any information.
- Use available resources — Vitu’s Resource tab contains helpful tools, including an out-of-state title cheat sheet — you can also click the image below to view the NMVTIS Title Reference Chart.
