The BMV has modified the Application for Certificate of Title for a Vehicle (State Form 205). The new form is required for any sale date of August 1, 2026 or later. However, you can begin using the new form immediately if you would like. Beginning August 1, the old form will not be acceptable.
VIN Inspections section changes in the new form
The one thing you’ll notice is the new title application form no longer has the VIN Inspection section. Therefore, in cases where a VIN inspection is required, you must fill out the VIN Inspection form separately.

The BMV has changed the way you enter transactions where the sales price is less than the trade.
When the Trade-In Credit exceeds Vehicle Purchase Price
If the trade-in credit is equal to or greater than the purchase price, use the following:
- Sales tax exemption code: N ‑ Not Exempt
- Purchase Price: the purchase amount
- Allowable Trade-In Amount: the trade-in amount
Important Notes: Because this type of transaction uses the exemption code of
N ‑ Not Exempt, the taxable amount must be ZERO, otherwise sales tax will be charged.
Be aware that the ST-108 — Certificate of Gross Retail or Use Tax, is still required and must be scanned along with all supporting documents.
