Even though Ohio issues a paper title for non-resident deals, if your lender participates in ELT, they still rely on the E-Lien ID to get notified that the lien was added. This is one of the biggest causes of lender callbacks, so we’ve put together some helpful tips to keep your transactions moving.
What you need to know
For Non-Resident (NR) deals with ELT lenders:
- Always enter the E-Lien ID (E-Code)
- Request a Paper Title (NR requirement)
Why this matters
- A Non-Resident purchaser must have a physical title to convert in their home state.
- Ohio will issue a paper title for NR deals
- ELT lenders rely on the E-Lien ID for notification
- Missing E-Lien ID leads to lender follow-ups and delays
Best practice workflow
- Enter lienholder Name and Address
- Enter E-Lien ID (required if lender is ELT)
- From the Tax Exemption dropdown, choose NR - Non-Resident Purchaser Or Taxable Non-Resident for reciprocal states
- Leave Paper Title selected
- Submit with both Paper Title and E-Lien ID
County requirements
Some counties require a Print Title Letter, while others allow indication on title application by checking printed. For this reason, you should always verify local county requirements.
Common mistake to avoid
Make sure you do not skip E-Lien ID just because a paper title is needed. This prevents ELT notification and causes lender issues.
Quick reminders

- E-Lien ID — How the lender is notified
Both are required for Non-Resident deals with ELT lenders
