And that cartoon above is a real person, our very own Lisa Beatrice — for Vitu Connecticut.

Lisa Beatrice jumped head first into the world of title and reg after joining General Systems Solutions (GSS) in 1992. She stayed through the various acquisitions that followed all the way up until the present. This year, after Vitu acquired the Dealertrack Registration & Titling Businesses earlier this year (more info, here), she was promoted to Operations Manager for Connecticut and Massachusetts.

“It’s an interesting history,” Lisa said. She started working at GSS’s parent company which was a government facility. Then the startup GSS moved away from fixed ops into the commercial sector, “and startups have their perks,” she winked. “If you worked past 5:00 PM, you could put your coins in the soda machine and out would come a beer!” Lisa pioneered their Customer Support and Training Department since they did not have one. “It used to be the engineers that answered customer calls,” she said, “which was not always a good thing.” Lisa was also the first Product Analyst in the company, starting up many new states while rewriting older states, including rewriting the New Jersey system from DOS! Over the years, Lisa was a big contributor and natural leader in starting up title and reg in New York, California and, of course, Connecticut and loves not only working with you, our partners, to understand workflows, but also our state partners and associations.

Lisa is proud of her two daughters, a doctor in occupational therapy and a master in speech pathology. “My girls were in competitive cheerleading, dance, and AAU softball, she said, “and I was away with them every weekend while they were competing.”

One amazing thing about Lisa is that she wears heels for everything she does. “I wore heels when I was nine months pregnant,” and even admitted to weed whacking in heels.

Family and friends are everything to Lisa, as she believes in surrounding herself with good, solid people. “I have been inspired by so many people throughout my career,” she beamed, “and am a firm believer in working hard and being honest.”

New Online Sales Tax Process

DOR has updated the procedure with a new website.

After registering a vehicle in Vitu Connecticut, you can now submit the required sales tax online using the steps described below. Previously, you filled out a form and submitted it to the Department of Revenue (DOR) via mail service. The only change in this procedure is the updated website URL provided in Step 1.

Sales Tax procedure

  1. Log onto the DOR website at https://portal.ct.gov/drs-myconnect
  2. From your DMS accounting program, run a report showing your total sales itemized out by category (such as sales, parts, service, etc.) and enter the lump sum of each category (there are numerous categories).

    Note
: You do not need to report each vehicle individually.
  1. Enter the total of the sales.
  2. You now have the option to enter deductions which are also entered as a total lump sum amount from the DMS Accounting reports.
  3. The sales tax due is calculated. You are given an option to EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or send funds to DOR for this amount via check.

A tip for small dealerships

If preferred, you can submit the sales tax due by entering one vehicle at a time. Follow the above procedure using only the specific information for the one vehicle.
