And that cartoon above is a real person, our very own Steve Nolan — for Vitu Wisconsin.

As the Operations Manager for Vitu Wisconsin, Steve Nolan oversees four Account Executives and two customer support reps while managing Vitu’s relationship with WATDA (Wisconsin Automobile & Truck Dealers Association) and the DMV. “It is a very busy job,” Steve says, “but I love it — how could you not?” After starting in IT, he became a trainer in the “exciting world of government subsidized housing — which had much better hours.” Steve entered the automotive industry in 2012 as a Wisconsin Reg & Title Trainer and was promoted to Senior Trainer, then to Account Manager. Steve noted, “I was the lone Wisconsin Account Manger when Vitu acquired the Dealertrack Registration & Titling Businesses earlier this year” (more info, here). Since then, Steve has learned that Vitu moves fast. “Every day is different and presents its own challenges," he said, “but I like challenges.”
In February, Steve attended a conference wearing his normal business attire — a dress shirt with the previous company’s branding. About half way through the first day, he was given a Vitu shirt which he promptly put on top of his shirt, leading to the moniker of “Two Shirts” among the other GMs. He joked, “So I wore two shirts the next day, too — I’ve had worse nicknames!” Steve blames his handwriting (some say it looks like encryption) on being left handed, “but it's really that I refuse to write slowly enough to make it legible,” he said. “Thankfully, computers exist.”
Steve is married and has a 16-year-old daughter who is extremely interested in the idea of a Vitu company car so she can drive the “other car that you don’t need anymore.” “Sixteen-year-olds are the best!” he says. His favorite hobby is to relax in the woods of Northern Minnesota in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to camp and fish, surrounded by amazing scenery. Outside of Hawaii, it's his favorite place on Earth.
The people who inspired Steve the most were his parents who raised him to be honest and care about how he does things. He also greatly admires Teddy Roosevelt's commitment to integrity, morality and wildlife conservation, and takes to heart a long quote of Roosevelt’s called, “Dare Mighty Things,” which says that it is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. “Sure, if you don't try, you won’t fail,” he said, “but you also won’t know the feeling of victory that comes with success.”

If you process transactions using Vitu Wisconsin, DMV requires you to pass a certification test on emvpartner.wi.gov, renewable every three years. Originally rolled out in 2019 (six years ago), we are once again at a three-year test renewal for many users.
How do I know if I am due for this test?
Because this is a Wisconsin DMV requirement, there is no way from within Vitu to see if you are due to take the test. However, the first indication you might get is while processing a transaction — a message may appear that you are past due for certification. This is not ideal, since you’re in the middle of a customer interaction and don’t have time to stop and retake a test. This is why we felt it was important to let you know ahead of time when you are due to retake the test.
Where can I find out when I last took the test?
Go to Wisconsin’s eMV PARTNER website and follow these steps:
- Login to emvpartner.wi.gov. Your login credentials are your WAMS ID and WAMS password.

- Once logged into the eMV PARTNER Dashboard, in the User Management area and under the chess pieces, click on the Test Certification link.

- In the Test Certification screen, the date you last took each required test is indicated in the Certified/Attempted Date column.
Note: Not all of the seven certification tests listed are required; only the tests that match your type of business.

If the date is more than three years ago, you cannot process a transaction until you retake the test. However, if it is less than three years ago, you have time to retake the test before any issues arise. Once you pass the test, you are once again good for three more years. Make sure your co-workers are also aware of this.
