While processing a Tag and Title transaction or Title only transaction in Vitu Georgia, there are a few error codes that can indicate that the address may be mismatched in the State and County system. The typical error codes for address issues are: 

REGISTERED COUNTY CODE: 002 SHOULD BE SAME AS PRIMARY RESIDENTIAL COUNTY CODE: 001 

and

PRIMARY REGISTERED County CODE WAS NOT FOUND. CANNOT CONTINUE

Why it happens

  • Recent Move: Your customer or customer’s business relocated to a new county or address, but the DMV records still reflect the old address
  • Data Entry Mistake: An error occurred during a past transaction, such as a registration renewal
  • System Mismatch: A technical glitch caused your address and vehicle info to fall out of sync

How to fix it

Step 1: Have the customer update their address with the DMV. You’re legally required to notify the DMV of your new address within a certain timeframe after moving. 

In person at local DMV office (appointments may be available online) or over the phone are the quickest ways to update.

Step 2: Confirm the update. Once the update is completed on the state side, retry the transaction that triggered the error.

Step 3: Contact the DMV, if needed. If the error persists, speak with a DMV representative.

  • Call DMV Customer Service: Find your local County Tag Office by visiting this website and finding contact information on the linked pages: https://dor.georgia.gov/county-tag-offices 
  • Ask for a DMV Supervisor: If the first rep can’t help, escalate the issue.
  • Provide documentation: Have proof of residency ready (e.g., utility bill, lease, mortgage statement).

Step 4: If It’s a DMV mistake. Stay calm and present your evidence. Some users have resolved similar issues by faxing documents to the DMV’s error correction unit, especially when payments were misapplied.

Pro Tip: Even if your state records are correct, your county may still need to update its database. A quick call to the County Tag Office can save you hours of frustration.
