If you receive this error, please contact the DOR at 855-406-5221 to confirm Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) status or eligibility, especially if you have not yet received your BHPH letter. An MV-DF1 would need to be filed with the state to establish eligibility.

Error 9997 – STOP OWNERSHIP TRANSFER IS IN PLACE ON THIS VEHICLE

This error often indicates that Title Ad Valorem Tax has not been paid or there has been a title action taken on this title outside of the ETR system. Please contact the DOR at 855-406-5221 or run a VIN inquiry to determine next steps.

Transaction cancellation — doing it right

Whenever canceling a transaction, be sure to include the following:

• Signed and notarized letter on company letterhead.
• Complete description of the vehicle (VIN, transaction documents, copy of the temp tag printed).
• Clear reason for cancellation.
• Lien release on lender letterhead, if applicable.
