Voiding TRP or out-of-state Drive Away

You have up to 15 days from Purchase Date to void TRP or Out-of-State Drive Away. 

After 15 days, an email must be sent to trp@ilsos.gov with the following:

• Front and back of title or MCO
• Letter of explanation 
• Documentation showing the deal fell through — such as a refund of downpayment or a notification from lienholder stating they were not going to finance the vehicle

Lease Buyouts cannot be done as a corrected title

A Lease Buyout is considered a new purchase and a Tax/Title/Registration or Tax/Title Corrected ID must be completed.

How to correct an incorrect lessor

If the lessor listed is incorrect, please submit the following documents:

• Lease agreement
• Letter from the lessor
• Amended ST-556-LSE-X with lessor information updated 
• Letter from the dealership with explanation of the error

If in a company name

If a Limousine tax exempt vehicle is in a company name, be sure to make these selections in the Owner Info section:

• Owner Type field: Company/Organization
• Company/Organization Type field: Carrier for Hire

If Tax Exempt — Sold to Interstate Carrier

If the Tax Exempt field shows Sold to Interstate Carrier, mark the Certificate of Authority # as LIMOUSINE.

Note: You MUST retain a copy of the RUT7 filled out completely.

If the owner is an individual

For individual owners, select the Owner Type field as: Individual.

Mark the Tax Exempt field as: Other.

• Enter your Reason as: LIMOUSINE RUT-7A.

Off-Road vehicles sold to out-of-state customers MUST pay Illinois Sales Tax. These are vehicles that do not get plated or registered, with:

• Owner address is non-Illinois
• Vehicle Type is Motorcycle
• Body Type MUST be: AL, AT, MX, DM, CO, DT, MN, MS, SS, UV

Note: For Off-Road Vehicles, nothing should be entered in the Drive Away/Plate # field.

• In the Taxes Info section, you can confirm the sales tax has been included.

When a used vehicle is being sold and has an Illinois title, if mileage entered on the application is less than what is on the state’s record, an error message appears indicating that the miles entered is less than what is on Illinois' database.

With this enhancement, the state will now allow you to type in the mileage as it should be shown on the application. Be sure to select either:

• Odometer Correction Actual
• Odometer Correction Not Actual

On the example VSD190 below, line 21 shows there is an odometer correction needed and other corresponding paperwork should be attached.

You must submit Affirmations from the seller and buyer responsible for the original mileage error and all corresponding parties involved, stating the correct ODOMETER READING at the time the error was made and certifying the mileage as ACTUAL, NOT ACTUAL, or IN EXCESS OF THE MECHANICAL LIMITS. The Affirmation Statements must include the year, make and vehicle identification number.
