If the customer has taken possession of the vehicle and driven off your dealership's lot, it must be titled, according to the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS). Should this transaction fall through due to non-funding or some other circumstances and the customer can not keep the vehicle, and they have already taken possession of the vehicle, you will need to perform the following depending on where the application is:
- If the application has not been validated and is still at your dealership, you will add the Mail-to address to your dealership and continue with the paperwork
- If the application has already been validated, but not sent to Vitu, you will need to attach an ERT Correction Sheet/Buck Sheet with the application
- If the application has already been validated and sent to Vitu, you will need to email ilauditteam@vitu.com an ERT Correction Sheet/Buck Sheet with a copy of the application and any Affirmation of Corrections

- If the application has been completed, an ERT Correction Sheet will need to be submitted for the update in order for the Mail-to Address to be completed. Reminder that New Vehicles are automatically released by Illinois SOS within seven days of validation.

Remember: Ilauditteam@vitu.com will need to be notified as soon as possible so the title is not issued to the lienholder. If a title is issued, you will need to get the title directly from the lienholder.

Our audit team would like to clarify some details regarding required paperwork for a deceased owner or owners. When there are two owners on a title and only one is deceased, a death certificate of the deceased as well as the signature for the second owner listed on the title is all that is needed. However, if each owner on the title is deceased, all death certificates are needed as well as a completed Small Estate Affidavit listing the beneficiary of the vehicle, their percentage of ownership (we recommend section 11 listed as the dealership). No new title will have to be issued. If a name other than a dealership is listed, a new title must be acquired in that person’s name and taxes filed.
Should a dealer submit a Will/Trust, only the first and last page is required, which should display who the beneficiary is, the signatures, and the notary; however, the beneficiary must sign off on the title as seller.

If you choose not to proceed further with a deal, please Void the deal if it is still in Pending status. Once the deal is voided, the VIN is now available for a blank application for a new customer. Even if a deal is voided, the previous documents and history are still saved. For example, should a deal be voided, but the user would like proof of taxes paid, you can go to the Documents tab and retrieve the ST-556. This is why we recommend you do not delete VINs from Vitu so any previous information can be easily retrieved.
